~ The James River Association ~

James River Bluegrass Association
is wholly supported by membership fees and fund raising projects, all of which pay for the events, activities, and programs we offer, which includes this website for the general public.

James River Bluegrass Association members are fans, musicians, and friends of bluegrass music, joined together to preserve, promote, and publicize bluegrass music, performers, and activities in the Central Virginia area for people of all ages.

James River Bluegrass Association brings people together for jam sessions, fun and enjoyment of bluegrass and related musical forms.

The James River Bluegrass Association
was founded in 1995 by Steve Faulconer, Hayes Faulconer, Jane Grim, Bobby Jennings, George Parrish, and Dick Woodfin. The organizational meeting took place at Hardees in Amherst County, Virginia. The original name of the Association was the Amherst County Bluegrass Association but was later changed to the James River Bluegrass Association. For several months the Association met at the Coolwell Community Center in Amherst County but soon moved to the Old Bingo Hall in Madison Heights, which was formerly King’s Market and Harris Teeter Grocery store. Nancy Schmidt was kind enough to allow the Association to use the building for donations until they could afford the rental fees. The Association later moved to The Bingo Hall in the Seminole Shopping Center. We held our last meeting there on May 13, 2010, and recently moved to the Madison Heights Community Center where our first meeting will be held on June 10, 2010.

Today the Association meets at the
Madison Heights Community Center - 424 Woodys Lake Road in Madison Heights, Virginia 24572.

Bobby Jennings was the first president of the Association. The first elected officers by the members of the Association were Roger Buchanan, President and Steve Faulconer, Vice President. George Parrish was still a participating member of the Association until his recent passing in November of 2017. Jane Grim has a band known as Dixie Blue. Hayes Faulconer passed away January 17, 2007 from Cancer.
